21st century children very often know far more than their parents about environment. Children are the main focus of Baglady’s work, and their needs are her first priority; she’s visited 160 schools since 2003. In 2009, a special Baglady Award will feature in the Irish YEA ECO-UNESCO awards.
Baglady started the whole plastic bag thing in Australia in 2001, working with Planet Ark and Clean Up Australia.
The NEEDabag? idea was piloted in Ballymena in 2004, funded by EHS and 10 councils in 2005, then fully by EHS and then NI Screen, in 2006-7, bringing in almost all the 26 councils. Baglady now works with people at all levels of government, in DoENI, DENI, and other related departments in Northern Ireland, the UK and ‘Ireland’.
These deal with environmental issues throughout Northern Ireland and far beyond. You can see many of these by clicking on "here". Thousands of children and teachers proudly show off their environmental knowledge and projects. The “NEEDabag? 2007″ project has 16 short films made all over Northern Ireland. In the Intro film, Baglady and ex-Environment Minister, Arlene Foster, speak together. She's is the 7th Environment Minister to speak with Baglady.
We investigate, facilitate workshops, act, write, and go anywhere, but insist on travelling ASAP (As Sustainably as Possible), and work with all ages: KIDS and ALLS (Adults Learning to Live Sustainably).
