New Year’s Resolutions…

We’re on the cusp of 2011 – lots of us are thinking about what lies in store for the coming 12 months. It’s time to come up with a New Year’s Resolution!

Now is a good time to reflect and consider how to make a change for the better in 2011. A simple, easy, achievable commitment to benefit the environment around us can be part of that.

Check out the pledge page and include a pledge to Live As Sustainably As Possible (ASAP) in your New Year’s Resolutions.

Little by little, small changes in behaviour can have a huge accumulative affect. So adopt a simple change in your everyday life – it works!

Stay in touch and let me know how your pledge progresses…

Best wishes and have a great 2011!

Baggileak 1: oil pollutes Braid River, Ballymena

OIL. Saw it, smelled it, reported it.

When I phoned the River Pollution Control Hotline today about 4pm, I learned that NI Environment Agency staff had been investigating the leak since yesterday. It was shut off at source about 3pm but residue was still pouring into the river. Legal action seems likely.

Does everyone know that petrol and oil leaks from cars in the street end up in our rivers, too? And fish don’t like them.

Let’s look out for Northern Ireland rivers.

let’s not waste this Christmas

my washing up water had ice on it today. good insulation between living room and kitchen

are YOU moving away from Waste this Christmas?

and maybe, moving beyond the consumer nightmare….. ?

plastic bag tax excitement chez Baglady

Welcome and failte romhat to the Northern Ireland plastic bag tax hurray! It’s not law yet but it better be: We need a new clean beautiful image for Northern Ireland.

However much or little money it raises, it is good news for the hundreds of thousands of NI people that hate the things. Yuk yuk yuk.

Whatever the political motives might be, dear MLAs, Mother Earth deserves a break from these toxic monstrosities which have been so carelessly given away by shops, supermarkets and takeaway for so long.
Let’s VANISH plastic bags and rubbish from our world. And Happy Christmas all. Let’s not WASTE it…

and hooray for NI journalist Liam Clarke who’s NOT going to pay 15p for a bag.

wow congrats MLAs!

Gday from me, Baglady. Excited!

Heard it first on BBC Radio 4…then somebody told me. Something about the Northern Ireland Assembly agreeing about some budget, and plastic bags…

A BAG tax?

Something about Sammy Wilson giving the bag tax the go-ahead. Onya Sammy. 15 pence a bag? Was this Daithi McKay‘s bill? What happened? Are they all agreeing?? !!

Please could someone tell me? If you know, or even think you know,

I Baglady a used to say Northern Ireland could say NO to plastic bags without a tax, a law or a levy. But adults like to be slow to learn sometimes, and in 2010 Northern Ireland has been the filthiest I’ve ever seen it. Though a few places seem to be getting cleaner. How do you do it? What’s it like in your wee town?

Great news from Newcastle. Newcastle Co Down is going ASAP in the New Year. Along with Omagh, Ballymena, Carrickfergus.… Watch this space, join in when you’re ready.
